So, apparently, Juiced Rocket Roger Clemens was more than a little sad that he wasn't included in the big Yankee Stadium tribute party event.
The words used in the article are quite hilarious: "heartbroken", "final crushing blow", "sad what they did to him", "clutching his wife's hand".
Think it might have been different Roger if you hadn't shot yourself up with illegal drugs? I think so, yeah.

Excluding Clemens may be somewhat understandable given the steroid stuff. However, Joe Torres was excluded as well and that was just for petty personal reasons. Hard to respect that...
I don't respect the Yankees anyways, but I have a feeling that Torre was partially excluded because he is currently managing another team. And even if he wasn't, it's just funny that Roger's in a snit over something like this, and seems to expect to be somewhat sympathetic.
The way I heard it, Torres left on bad terms and that's the only reason he was excluded. Petty Steinbrenner Jr. Sure, Torres may not have attended because he was working elsewhere but they could have included him in the video montage, at least.
And yes, Clemens did get some sympathy from the local media here. If you dismiss him for the drug thing, you might as well admit those years of glory were tainted as well and refuse to celebrate those. You can't brag about your storied franchise history and then place all the blame on someone else. Like it or leave it...
Regarding the steroids thing specifically, I really don't care to tar-and-feather any oldies. MLB refused to start testing decades ago, playing "dirty" wasn't against the rules. Go back a hundred years and people figure dout how to get an edge then, too. It's only "cheating" if it's against the rules, anything else is just competitive. To back-track and try to white-wash and asterisk-ize history is just scape-goating...
The huge difference (and I'd have a lot more respect for Roger if he just did this) is that Roger has never admitted doing it when the vast bulk of evidence points to the contrary. Look at the guys who have admitted doing 'roids. Does the media even remember who they are? Nope, it blows over. But a guy like Roger who doesn't admit even when it all adds up that he did? That story never grows old.
