A Thought From CS Lewis

If we readily accept that all physical creations have a creator, why don't we apply the same logic to the universe?

Sure, physical creations need creators. But who said the universe is a physical creation?

Wow, you have opened a whole can of philosophical worms. And I don't have time to say anything....

K, fine, substitute "universe" with "earth". Are you suggesting the earth is not a physical creation?

I'm intrigued to see that argument.

Nah, I'm ragging on you for saying "something created needs a creator." Of course that's true, but it's a tautology. The problem is showing that the universe is, indeed, a created thing.

I second Mike, and I'll go one step further and assert that there is no way we can "prove" that the universe is a created thing (which then requires a creator) to those outside of the narrative of faith. Attempting to win this point, or most of the points associated with traditional Christian apologetics, strikes me as a massive waste of time.

Rather than attempting to translate faith into an alternate narrative (say the narrative of the Enlightenment) and an alternate epistemology (say the epistemology of physical science), I think we would be better off, and actually more successful, if we spent more time embodying our faith while speaking a foreign language.
