Child Care

Why do we assume that the best avenue for child care is the government?

We complain about the government so much, and yet somehow it is a good idea to trust our most precious resource to them?

"Trust our most precious resource to them", what rhetoric. You make it sound like Chris Bentley is going to be babysitting my kids or something. It's a funding issue we're talking about.

Yeah! And my most precious resource is my brain. And I would trust a government-run hospital to take care of that...

What the communist government of days gone by tried to do by force, we now demand as a universal right.

Abe - I'm a lawyer. I love rhetoric. You're right, it's a funding issue...but (like anything) if I pay taxes so the government can determine what happens to my kids instead of using my own money to determine what happens to my kids, it's the same deal.

Jamie - Cute, as always.

David - Interestingly, I often think of your church structure as something along the lines of Christian Classical Communism, so your comments here make me smile. But it is interesting how many times we do demand the government take care of things for us when historically we would be repulsed by the idea.

hmmm. Christian classical communism. To dethrone one system is seen as a form of communism. I didn't realize that. I guess you don't think churches have dictators who are there for the people's good, eh?

I actually think any organization tends towards control. The Russians knew the best chance to form people into good followers of their dogmas was to get them when they were very young. ie pre-school

Without the word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit I would simply be advocating anarchy as being superior to organized religion.

Here's an old Russian saying that reveals the smoke and mirrors of socialism. As long as the government pretends to pay us we will continue to pretend to work.

About church I would paraphrase it like this. As long as the pastor pretends to speak for God his parishioners will continue to pretend to be listening to God.

One good thing about the Russians was that almost everyone knew that they were pretending.

Have you ever noticed the number of people that have found out exactly where God wanted them to be? Mysteriously it's it often in the same religious system as their parents.
catholics stay catholics, Buddhists stay Buddhists, baptists stay baptists, charismatics stay charismatics, Moslems stay Moslems, Amish stay Amish, Hindus stay Hindus...

Aww, Lawyer Kid thinks I'm cute...

Re: Christian Classical Communism
*tee hee* Wait, I thought that's what Dan Oudshorn was trying to accomplish...?

All I see my dad saying is that churches waste money, a pastor is the boss, Sunday services are restrictive, and we all need close friends. Where did communism come in? My dad likes to make incendiary comments but his opinions are fairly agreeable in the end.

The label my dad's opinions like that reminds me of American politics. If you're not with us then you're against us, and if you're against us then we will vilify you as the enemy.

Kids aren't a resource, anymore than you and I are.

I do apologize if that came out wrong - I was intending to be lighthearted. And you're right J, that's more Dan's turf anyways.

No insult intended: far be it for me to insult on one few the things we actually agree on.
